20 Ways to Kick-Back & Relax With Your Significant Other

When I came across this quote, it really resonated with me. There’s been a million times
where I’ve been overworked, stressed and really flipping my shit — as some people might call it. During those times, I just try to power through, but it ends up biting me in the butt. My work suffers, my home life suffers and my health suffers.

To truly make it through a stressful time, you must RELAX or “take a chill pill, dude!”

Having time to just kick-back and relax allows your body to refresh and re-energize. Sometimes it’s even better to do just that with the one you love!

My fiance and I have compiled a list of 20 ways to relax with your significant other:

  1. Gaze at the Stars.

    On a beautiful starry night, head out to a grassy field to view the stars. If you’re in a big city, drive your car to an overlook and admire the city skyline.

  2. Watch a Movie.

    Stay home, get cozy on the couch and put on a feel-good movie. Might I recommend an Adam Sandler movie like Billy Madison or The Waterboy and a big bowl of popcorn.

  3. Go on a Hike.

    Get out of the house and enjoy the fresh air on a beautiful day! If you’re feeling up to it, you might even want to bring your four-legged fur baby. Woof woof!

  4. Take a Drive in the Country.

    Hop in your car and head to the country. Roll down the windows so you can feel the wind rushing through your air and smell the freshly cut grass (if you’re allergic it might not be such a good idea).

  5. Give Each Other Massages.

    Grab some lotion and give each other a relaxing massage. You can even put on some spa music in the background.

  6. Grab a Cup of Coffee.

    Go to a local coffee shop, grab a warm cup of coffee and people watch. Don’t love coffee like me? Get a cup of hot chocolate. It will give you the ‘warm and fuzzies.’ Don’t like people? Then, I’m not quite sure what to tell you…

  7. Go Fly a Kite.

    Head to the Dollar Tree and buy two small kites. Then, go the park and spend the afternoon flying them. If you’re really in a good mood, then you might start signing
    “Let’s go fly a kite, up to it’s highest height!”

  8. Piece Together a Puzzle.

    Spend an afternoon putting together a puzzle. You may even want to use it as wall art
    one day.

  9. Bake Some Treats

    Swing by your nearest grocery store and pick up the ingredients to bake your favorite “comfort foods.” Then, eat them while watching your favorite movie.

  10. Go for a Swim.

    Whether it’s your own private pool or lap pool, put your suit on and get in the water. Swim some laps if you’re feeling up to it.

  11. Have a Candle-Light Takeout Dinner.

    Cooking can be stressful at times. Instead, pick up dinner from your favorite restaurant and take it home. Spruce up the meal with some lit candles. And viola!

  12. Go Eat Brunch on the Town.

    Find a new restaurant to have brunch. If it’s nice, get a table outside and enjoy the sunshine.

  13. Visit a Museum.

    It doesn’t have to be the Smithsonians, but visit a museum in your area. It’ll be a new experience to stimulate your brain and allow you to get your mind off of things.

  14. Grab a Few Drinks at a Low-Key Bar.

    Avoid the busy, wild bars. Instead, opt for a low-key bar and have a few drinks. Just remember to grab a cab if too many drinks are involved.

  15. Go to a Drive-In.

    Drive-ins are far from outdated. If anything, they’re more relaxing because you get to enjoy the big screen inside your own car with your love.

  16. Check In to a Spa.

    Probably the most relaxing of any of these activities, a spa, while expensive, can help eliminate all of your stress — at least for the day.

  17. Go Canoeing.

    Find the nearest body of water, whether it’s a creek, lake, pond or the bay, and rent a canoe. Paddle around or just lay back and soak up the sun.

  18. Take a Weekend Trip.

    You don’t even have to leave the town if you don’t want to. Just make a reservation at local Bed & Breakfast.

  19. Make a Reservation at a Fancy Restaurant.

    Sometimes food can make everything better! Make a reservation to cool, new restaurant in town and enjoy a magical dining experience.

  20. Go for a Horseback Ride.

    Riding horses can be very therapeutic. Find a stable nearby and go for a trail ride.
